Goochland County is excited to announce Tom Cocke has been selected as the new Director of Parks and Recreation.
Cocke joins the County with 10 years of experience in public, military, and university recreation settings. He most recently served as the Director of Recreation Programs at the University of Virginia. Prior to his time at UVA, he served as the Director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism for the City of Loris in South Carolina. Cocke earned his Master’s in Sport Management from Coastal Carolina University.
“Goochland is excited to have Tom join the Community Development and Operations team serving Parks and Recreation, his passion for service and positive energy will foster the continued engagement and growth within one of our most forward-facing agencies”, said Krystal Onaitis, Deputy County Administrator.
On starting his new role, Cocke stated, "I want to thank the Goochland County Board of Supervisors, County Administrator Victor Carpenter, and Deputy County Administrator Krystal Onaitis for this opportunity. I am looking forward to continuing the great progress the county has made in the area of parks and recreation, as well as bringing new ideas and initiatives to the table.”
The Director of Parks and Recreation position was posted after the previous Director, Jessica Kronberg, accepted the Chief of Marketing and Communications position with Goochland County over the summer. Kronberg will continue to serve as the Director until Cocke joins the County on October 16th.
Parks and Recreation will be working to schedule a meet-and-greet opportunity for the community later this month.
