Mills Jones, Goochland County Director of Human Services, was elected to serve on the State Executive Council for Children’s Services (SEC) on December 14, 2023. The SEC advises the Governor and Cabinet Secretaries on proposed policy and operational changes to the Commonwealth’s strategies to provide foster care, mental health, and special education services to children and families in Virginia. In Fiscal Year 2023, Virginia spent approximately $500 million in services to citizens.
As a part of his duties, Jones will serve as chair of the State Local Advisory Team (SLAT). The SLAT is tasked with advising the SEC on specific program and fiscal policies that support the provision of services to troubled youth and their families at the state and local level.
“It is a privilege to be elected by my colleagues as chair of the SLAT and to serve on the SEC where I can advocate for Virginia’s children and families.” said Jones.
“This recognition bestowed upon Mills is well deserved,” stated Goochland County Administrator, Vic Carpenter, “His knowledge, compassion and steadfast commitment to serving those he is entrusted to support are all evidence of the type of person he is. Goochland County is honored to have him as a vital member of our team.”
