Presentation of Fire-Rescue Lifesave Award to Firefighter Paramedic Morgan D. Kingston

On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, during the Goochland County Board of Supervisors meeting, Goochland County Fire-Rescue Chief Ferguson presented a Fire-Rescue Lifesave award to Firefighter Paramedic Morgan D. Kingston from Courthouse Company 5 A Shift.

Firefighter Paramedic Morgan D. Kingston was presented the award for the Successful Application of Fire and Emergency Medical Procedures on May 29, 2022.  On this day, he responded as part of the Water Rescue Team to Incident# 220529005, for a water rescue on James River near Powhatan State Park.  On this day the river was running 12 feet at flood stage.   A person, who could not swim, was reported to be caught in a tree, in the water and was not wearing a life jacket.   While effecting a boat rescue and without hesitation, he leapt from Boat 605, into the muddy, swift current of the James River.  Swimming for and rescuing the victim who was in obvious distress caught in a strainer, who went underneath the water while trying to grab for a flotation device that was being thrown.  Firefighter Paramedic Morgan D. Kingston reached the victim, secured the floatation device and assisted them safely into the boat, saving their life. 

HIS SELFLESS AND COURAGEOUS ACTIONS RESULTED IN THE SAVING OF A LIFE. 

The Goochland County Department of Fire-Rescue & Emergency Services Water Rescue Team is to be commended also and is receiving a “Unit Citation” for the multiple responses and rescues during the 2022 Memorial Day holiday weekend.
