Testing Confirms Water Remains Safe

Testing Confirms Water Remains Safe Following Fluoride Release in Richmond

On Monday, April 28, 2025, Goochland County learned of the incident which released a higher-than-recommended concentration of fluoride into the City of Richmond’s water supply.

Fortunately, this was an isolated incident and Goochland County Public Utilities did not expect elevated fluoride levels of water to reach customers on the East End Water System or to impact Goochland’s water supply in any way. Out of an abundance of caution, Goochland County Public Utilities has been performing daily fluoride testing on the water that enters our system from Henrico County. Test results show that fluoride levels are, and have been, within normal acceptable levels. Read more.

James River Float Times

Helpful Tips for River Safety:

  • Float times and distances, as these can vary depending on the river's water levels.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and currents.
  • Rocks are not always visible to the naked eye. Never dive in a river; a rock could be right below the surface.
  • Don’t swim up against a rock. There might be water going underneath the rock that can pull you down and trap you. Always approach the obstacle from downriver.
  • If you are floating in fast water, keep your feet in front of you and float on your back - do not try and stand up. Your foot could get caught under a rock and pull you under.
