[ARCHIVED] Parks and Recreation Begins Master Plan Process

Master Plan

The Goochland County Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the launch of its Master Plan process. This comprehensive planning effort will guide the future development and enhancement of parks, trails, recreation facilities, and programs over the next 5-10 years.

The Master Plan will serve as a roadmap to ensure that the Parks and Recreation Department continues to meet the evolving needs of the community. It will identify priorities, address challenges, and outline strategies for providing high-quality recreational opportunities for all residents.

"We are committed to providing exceptional parks and recreation experiences that enrich the lives of our residents," said Tom Cocke, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. "The Master Plan process is essential to ensure that we are meeting the community's needs and providing a strong parks and recreation system for future generations."

The Parks and Recreation Department has already begun seeking input from the community. The first public meeting, held on January 22nd, was well attended by residents as well as representatives from a variety of community organizations. Throughout the entire 10-month process, the Department will continue to seek input from the community.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the upcoming engagement opportunities and to contribute feedback during the planning process. The next public meeting is scheduled for March 18th at Salem Baptist Church starting at 6:00 PM. In addition to community events and focus group meetings, information will be collected through surveying a statistically valid sample of Goochland citizens.

"We want to hear from everyone in the community," said Cocke. "Your input is critical to the success of this plan. Together, we can create a parks and recreation system that meets the needs of our growing community." The Master Plan process is expected to be completed in fall of 2025. The final plan will be presented to the Goochland County Board of Supervisors for adoption.
