[ARCHIVED] Goochland County Under Red Flag Warning

News Flash

Goochland County is under a Red Flag Warning from 10:00AM to 8:00PM on March 20, 2024. Citizens are encouraged to refrain from burning until after the Red Flag Warning has been lifted.

What is a Red Flag Warning?

A Red Flag Warning means due to the temperature, very low humidity, and expected strong winds, there is an increased fire danger.

As a reminder, Goochland's 4pm Burning Law is currently under effect - meaning no burning can take place until after 4pm. Remember to keep all burn barrels covered with a weighted metal cover, any holes in the cover should be less than 3/4 of an inch.

Never leave a fire unattended. Extinguish all outdoor fires properly; stir to make sure the fire is completely out and use plenty of water.

Do not throw cigarettes or matches on the ground or out of a moving vehicle.

Reminder #Goochland, avoid burning today and tonight! Dry conditions on breezy to windy W-SW winds will lead to critical to near-critical fire weather conditions today. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Virginia counties west of the Chesapeake Bay, including Goochland and our region.

The 4 pm Burning Law is in effect until April 30, restricting open-air burning until 4 pm.

Citizens are encouraged to monitor the National Weather Service – Wakefield for any changes in weather conditions.

Visit Virginia Department of Forestry(VDOF) and #Goochland's websites for more info on regulations and why Virginia has this law.
