[ARCHIVED] Goochland County Celebrates National Parks and Recreation Month

National Parks and Recreation Month

Celebrate National Parks and Recreation month with Goochland County Parks & Recreation! On July 2, 2024, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation designating July as Parks and Recreation Month in Goochland County. Since 1985, the United States has celebrated Parks and Recreation month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), in July to recognize the vital role of parks and recreation in building strong, vibrant, and resilient communities.

Goochland County Parks and Recreation is celebrating by inviting the community to share their experiences, memories and stories about what parks and recreation mean to them. Throughout the month of July, Goochland County Parks and Recreation will be holding a ‘BINGO Parks and Rec Challenge’. Participants must complete 20 of the 25 tasks on the BINGO card, take a selfie when completing the task, and turn it into department staff at the Goochland Sports Complex for a prize. Tasks on the BINGO card include walking in the park, attending a fitness class, watching the July 4th Fireworks, attending the upcoming Night at Tucker Concert on July 26th, and more. BINGO Parks and Rec Challenge

“We’re thrilled to have the Goochland County Board of Supervisors recognize July as National Parks & Recreation Month!” said Tom Cocke, Director of Parks and Recreation. “This resolution highlights the vital role our parks, facilities, and programs play in enhancing the quality of life for all residents of Goochland County.  It’s the perfect time to get outside, explore our beautiful parks, and take advantage of the fun and exciting activities we’ve got planned. Let’s make this summer one to remember in Goochland County!”

NRPA and Goochland County Parks and Recreation encourages everyone who supports parks and recreation to share how it has fostered belonging, as well as why their local park and recreation professionals are important to them, on social media with #WhereYouBelong and #GCPR.
