The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has reviewed a request by Goochland County to terminate groundwater monitoring at the closed Goochland County Landfill located on Hidden Rock Lane and deemed it technically and administratively complete. Based on the evaluation by DEQ of groundwater monitoring results as presented in the Termination of Post-Closure Activity Evaluation, dated July 24, 2018, discontinuation of groundwater monitoring at the landfill is not anticipated to represent a threat to human health or the environment. Although monitoring of the groundwater will no longer be required by DEQ, the Board of Supervisors has requested that staff continue monitoring the groundwater on a 2 to 3-year interval basis.
The County’s request is presented in the document, Termination of Post-Closure Activity Evaluation, dated July 24, 2018 (revised January 10, 2019) and is available to review on the County website (www.goochlandva.us) or at the Goochland Public Library (3075 River Rd W, Goochland, VA 23063) along with other related documents. Public participation is sought to identify issues of concern and to facilitate communication of those who may be affected by the facility. The County will receive public comments concerning the proposal for the termination of groundwater monitoring from May 1- May 30, 2019. Written comments may be directed to Leigh Dunn, Environmental Planner, PO Box 103, Goochland, VA 23103 or by email at ldunn@goochlandva.us. For further information, call Leigh Dunn at (804) 556-5850 or John Woodburn, Environmental Engineer, at (804) 657-2027.
