At 9:45 AM on Sunday the 11th, members of Goochland County’s Fire-Rescue Department and Sheriff’s Office will gather at Fire-Rescue Company 5 (2710 Fairground Rd) to pay honor to the more than 400 members of the first responder community that lost their lives on that fateful day. The event will include the reading of the names of the fallen as well as the “Tolling of the Bell” to signify the loss of a comrade in the line of duty. Members of the public are invited to attend.
At 7PM that evening residents are invited to gather a Company #1 (180 River Rd. West) for a special ceremony that honors all individuals who were lost on September 11, 2001. Goochland County is partnering with the Freedom Flag Foundation in what promises to be a moving tribute that will culminate at the site of the county’s memorial to 9/11. Representatives from Goochland County High School ROTC as well as local officials will offer words of remembrance and reflection. Members of the public are invited to attend as we honor those lost and reflect on “What September 11, 2001 Means to Me”.
