1. Formal registration is open now for the combined well water-testing program in Goochland and Powhatan Counties. The cost is $60.00 per sample kit and should be paid at the time of registration by mail or in person at the extension office. Please see the attached flyer for more information. You can also register online but will have to submit your check or cash payment to our office. At this time, we are unable to accept credit card payments for this program. Please make your check payable to the “Treasurer of Virginia Tech” and mail or deliver to the address below:

2. Goochland Sample Kit Pickup – September 20, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Central High Cultural & Educational Complex Parking Lot located at 2748 Dogtown Rd., Goochland VA 23063. Participants will pick up their sample kit outdoors at our office parking lot with physical distancing measures using a drive through parking lot pickup methodology. Social distancing and masks are required for any necessary direct personal interactions to distribute the kits. Included with the sample kit, participants will receive a written water sampling procedure and a web link to view an online video of the water sampling procedure. Familiarity with the sampling procedure is critical to obtaining accurate results.
3. Sample Drop-off/Submission – Wednesday September 22, 2021 between 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM at the Central High Cultural & Educational Complex Parking Lot located at 2748 Dogtown Rd., Goochland VA 23063. Using the proper procedure, homeowners will take samples from the primary faucet in the home early Wednesday morning. Participants must deliver the filled sample bottles to our office parking lot early Wednesday morning between 7-9 AM. Social distancing and masks are required during sample drop-off in the parking lot. Extension staff will transport the samples to the water lab at Virginia Tech for testing. This insures that the samples are very fresh when they reach the lab. All samples submitted on September 22nd will be tested in a batch. Test result reports will be sent to participants via email or USPS. If no participant email address is provided, results will be sent via USPS mail.
4. Water Test Results & Interpretation Meeting – a combined county interpretation meeting will be held approximately 5 weeks after the sample submission date. Date and time will be sent to registered participants via email. Both Goochland and Powhatan registrants should participate in this meeting. During the meeting, we will go over the results as a group and we hope to have health department staff, well drillers and other local experts available to answer questions. This meeting helps people figure out the next steps to correct any problems found. You can also contact our office at your convenience for any specific questions concerning your test results or for further recommendations.
The sample submission time on Wednesday morning September 22nd is the only time we will accept samples. Please see the link below for the sampling procedure video and other information concerning this program:
