Upon arrival at the scene, it was reported that the dump truck had run off the road to the left and overturned with the driver trapped in the cab of the truck.  The driver was extricated from the cab by Goochland County Fire-Rescue personnel, and Med-Flight I airlifted him to a nearby trauma center.

The contents of the truck, which was assumed to be manure, had spilled across the interstate.  It was later determined that the contents was biosolids coming from Maryland and destined for a farm field.  Goochland County Fire-Rescue requested the response of representatives from Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) due to the contents of the truck.  Virginia State Police and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) closed all lanes of westbound I-64 due to the accident and anticipated clean up.

Representatives from both VDEM & DEQ responded to the scene to evaluate and advise on clean up.   Actual clean up of the accident scene and spilled load was handled by First Call Environmental out of Ashland, Virginia.  Proper clean up and disposal of the biosolids from the accident scene occurred under the oversight of representatives from VDEM, DEQ, VDOT, and Goochland County Fire-Rescue.   Great care was taken throughout the clean up to remove all traces of biosolids, as a result there should be no impact to area residences or businesses.  Glen Allen Towing & Recovery handled the removal of the truck cab and trailer.  VDOT partially opened I-64 to travel near mid-day and fully opened all travel lanes late this afternoon.
