[ARCHIVED] Residents Asked to Refrain from Open Air Burning on 12/2 and 12/3 Due to Increased Fire Danger

Smokey Fire Danger - High

Due to a forecast of low humidity and high wind speeds across Southwest and Central Virginia, there is an increased fire danger for the region on Thursday, Dec. 2nd and Friday, Dec. 3rd.  Both days are rated as a Class 3 - HIGH Fire Danger by the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF).

Class 3 - HIGH Fire Danger

  • Normal fire season activity.
  • Fires start easily from most causes.
  • Fires burn at moderate to fast rates; control can be difficult if control action is not started promptly.

Smokey Fire Danger - High

VDOF monitors weather and fuel conditions on a daily basis to estimate the expected level of wildfire activity in the Commonwealth.  For more information on Fire Danger and Daily Fire Danger please visit VDOF's website at

Citizens are reminded and strongly encouraged to consult the open burning regulations for Goochland County before conducting any open burning year-round.  Prior to all open burning, the Goochland County Sheriff’s Office must be notified at (804) 556-5348 with the location and times of the burning.
