Following an extensive search lasting several months, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors has chosen Dr. Jeremy Raley to serve as the next County Administrator. During a special meeting on Friday, May 23^rd, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors voted to approve Raley’s employment contract. Raley has served as the Chief of Staff for the Virginia Department of Education since 2023.

Raley has over two decades of public service experience at both the state and local level and brings with him a strong background in leadership and finance. A longstanding member of the Goochland community, Raley served as the Superintendent for Goochland County Public Schools for nearly seven years prior to his time at the Virginia Department of Education. He holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Virginia as well as a master’s degree and doctorate in organizational leadership from Shenandoah University.

Together, we will continue to ensure our community remains strong, vibrant, and prosperous for the residents and businesses who call Goochland County home.”      

The search for a new County Administrator began in early 2025, following the announcement of Victor Carpenter’s departure. The Board of Supervisors began working to determine the desired qualities for the next County Administrator. Recruitment began on February 20, 2025, and included posting on leading Government association sites such as International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and Virginia Local Government Management Association (VLGMA). After the initial thirty-day recruitment period, the Board of Supervisors reviewed over thirty applications and identified several qualified candidates for interviews. Raley was selected following multiple rounds of interviews.

His longstanding dedication to the county and strong leadership skills will help move the county forward”

Dr. Raley will begin his role as County Administrator on June 9, 2025.
