A community rich in history, the Goochland County Courthouse is widely considered to be the most well-maintained Jeffersonian courthouse in Virginia. Tuckahoe Plantation, the boyhood home of Thomas Jefferson, is the oldest recorded River Plantation in the County, and is a popular historical attraction today. 

With strong financial policies, Goochland has been recognized for fiscal excellence and to been able to reduce overall costs for debt acquisition. In 2021, Goochland became the smallest county in the United States to have earned the highest rating from all three credit rating agencies, which reflects the County’s exceptional financial resilience.

Home to an award-winning public-school system,  Goochland County Public Schools have been named the #1 school division in the Richmond metro region by Niche.com for six years in a row.  Goochland is one of only 15 school divisions recognized by the Virginia Department of Education for designing and implementing alternatives to traditional instructional practices and school structures that improve student learning and promote college and career readiness, and good citizenship.

Goochland County is seeking applications for the next Deputy County Administrator to help continue this tradition of excellence. The Deputy County Administrator will serve as liaison to boards, committees, outside agencies, and organizations. The ideal candidate must be skilled in strategic planning, workflow analysis, and process management. The Deputy County Administrator will act as the County Administrator in his absence.
