This capital project was approved and is funded as part of the County and Schools Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for FY 2018-2022. The expansion is in response to both a parking study completed in December 2016 and concerns raised by citizens. The study confirmed that existing parking lots are not in compliance with County Code standards for parking.
The project involves the redesign and expansion of the front main parking lot for the Administration Building and construction of a permanent parking lot behind the Extension Office building. More than 60 new parking spots will be added. Construction is expected to begin in early August and last approximately 60 days. The lot behind the Extension Office is projected to be constructed next summer.
Preparation work will begin on Sunday, July 23rd with removal of existing trees surroundingthe main front parking lot. Trees and landscaping affected will be replaced with a greater quantity of new trees and landscaping than previously existed.
During construction, the front main parking lot will be temporarily closed starting in early August, the county apologizes for any inconvenience this may create. All other parking lots surrounding the Administration Building will be open and available for citizens and customers to park in.
“We thank citizens for their patience during this project,” said John Budesky, county administrator. “Once complete the expansion of parking will allow citizens and customers easier access to county offices, especially during high-traffic periods.”
As the project progresses, updates will be shared via the county’s website www.goochlandva.us,social media channels, and through local media.
