Goochland County’s annual Tire Amnesty and Document Shredding event, held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, proved to be a resounding success.

While the event officially began at 9:00 a.m., eager participants started lining up well before 8:00 a.m. In total, around 400 vehicles participated, bringing with them over 500 tires and 10,000 pounds of documents for shredding.

“This event was different than previous years, as we collected large truck and agriculture type tires.”, said Don Leftwich, Solid Waste & Recycling Manager. “It has been years since this type of event was held in Goochland County.”

With such a large turnout, the efforts of the Goochland High School JROTC, led by retired United States Marine Lieutenant Colonel Williams, were instrumental in the event’s success. “The JROTC group did a fantastic job!”, Leftwich remarked. “Several of the group were covered from head to toe [following the event].  We could not have pulled this off without their help!”
