[ARCHIVED] Goochland County Made Aware of Residents Experiencing Discolored Well Water Following Heavy Rains

Discolored Water

Goochland County has been made aware of residents experiencing murky and/or discolored water from their wells due to the recent heavy rainfall.

For those experiencing murky and/or discolored water, please refer to the following guidance from Virginia Department of Health.

Let the water in the well settle for a day or two to
see if the water clears up.  If the water does not clear, contact alicensed private well service provider to determine if your well casing is
damaged that may be allowing mud and other contaminants into the well.  Do not use this water.  If you are feeling ill, please contact
your physician.

After the well water clears, it is best to contact alicensed private well provider, to initiate a well shocking procedure, and then
have your well water tested for total coliform bacteria. Licensed private well and well water testing provider link. Search for License Type (Well Driller or Well WaterTesting (Total Coliform)) by using the dropdown box under the License Type
Legend.

Additional information can be found on the Virginia Department of Health's website.

Residents needing access to potable water during thistime can contact the Emergency Operations Center at (804) 556-5678 through
Friday, February 21.  Supplies arelimited to two cases of water per household.
