Each year residents all across the United States lose their lives in fires from which had they had advanced notification, they could have escaped. The National Fire Protection Association reports that 71% of smoke alarms which failed to operate had missing, disconnected or dead batteries, making it important to take this time each year to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Goochland County Fire-Rescue reminds all residents that when you “Change your clock, change the battery and inspect your smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm”. This weekend as we switch to Eastern Standard Time take a few minutes and perform this potential lifesaving action.
