Filling
a vacancy on the Board of Supervisors created as a result of the unfortunate
and untimely death of Supervisor Ned S. Creasey on March 10, 2018.
The
Board was required by state law to appoint, by April 24, 2018, a qualified
voter of District 3 to fill the vacancy until a special election could be held
on November 6, 2018. After a very
deliberative selection process, the Board selected John L. Lumpkins, Jr., a
qualified voter of District 3 who had expressed an interest and willingness to
serve in the capacity of Interim Supervisor.
Mr.
Lumpkins is a long-time resident of Goochland County and has served for a
number of years as a member of the Goochland County School Board, currently
serving as the Chair. This was his
second term as chair, having previously served in this role in 2015. A graduate of the University of Dayton and
the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law, he currently operates
his own law firm.
“Mr. Lumpkins will be a welcome addition to the Board”, said Ken Peterson, Chairman of the Goochland County Board of Supervisors, “steeped in experience he shares the vision for the County and will be a valued asset.” Mr.
Lumpkins will officially be sworn in and take the oath of office on Tuesday,
May 1, 2018 at 2 p.m. as part of the Goochland County Board of Supervisors May 1,
2018 meeting. His term of shall conclude
when a candidate is elected on November 6, 2018 and qualifies for the office.
