[ARCHIVED] Recognition of the Greater Richmond Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) - 2022 MRC Program Recognition

2022 Community Preparedness and Resilience Award - Greater Richmond MRC April 2022

At the Goochland County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, Interim County Administrator Manuel Alvarez recognized Alyssa Lewis, Greater Richmond Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Unit Coordinator and the Greater Richmond MRC (serving the City of Richmond and Counties of Charles City, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, and New Kent) on being selected as a 2022 Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Program Recognition Awardee.

In recognition of National Volunteer Week, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness & Response announced recipients of its MRC Recognition Awards on April 19, 2022.  Across the country, there were nearly 200 nominations.  Our very own Greater Richmond MRC Unit won the award for Community Preparedness and Resilience.

The U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services' 2022 "Community Preparedness and Resilience Award" honors an MRC unit that has demonstrated contributions at the community level aimed at reducing vulnerabilities, building resilience, and improving public health preparedness. Only two MRC units across the nation received this award.

Local MRC volunteers provided staffing at Goochland’s COVID Vaccination clinics and COVID testing events as well as in the community, small businesses, churches, community events and home visits.

This is a high honor and very well-deserved award, and we join our community and region in thanking them for their selfless service.   Those interested in becoming MRC volunteers are encouraged to fill out an application on the VDH MRC website (
